Date: February 4th 2010 Alishia, I agree with Gayle in getting IS involved. They are developing mine in our Meditech system so everyone can view the information if need be. There may be away to taylor things in your hospital documentation system if they are on computer so the system "talks" and saves you time. Kari

The three Nurse Navigators at our hospitals have been attempting to develop a useful navigation database. We were pretty far along in developing a draft in Access, and turned to our IS team for “fine tuning.” It was at that point that we learned that Access is NOT HIPAA compliant, and so we went back to square one. IS has now taken charge of the project using Microsoft SQL. We are hoping to be “live” by the end of Feb. The actual database may be proprietary to our institution, but if we are successful, we hope we can be of help to others.. I suggest you get your IS (or IT) department in the loop at the beginning!
