Job Summary

The Director, Nursing and Clinical Services are responsible for operations and personnel management of the assigned patient care unit. Acts as a liaison between the various areas of patient care services to ensure continuity. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary across the different programs and areas. Plans, organizes, and directs the operations and quality improvement program for the assigned unit in collaboration with the disease center leaders. This is accomplished by employing multidisciplinary teams to design, implement and monitor systems that will provide for the highest quality patient experience while maximizing provider time and space utilization.   • Develops and implements departmental quality improvement plan that is consistent with the goals of the Institute.
  • Prepares budget and monitors on-going evaluation of expenditures.
  • Serves as an active member of committees at various levels in the Institute.
  • Participates in marketing for the DFCI/PCC Ambulatory Site through fundraising events and outreach programs.
  • Works in collaboration with the other nurse program, leaders, and the Director of Adult Ambulatory Services to maintain administrative and clinical continuity within ambulatory services.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agency requirements.
  • Assures staff compliance with required competencies and annual requirements.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of computer systems in use at the Institute to include IDX, Sunquest AS 400, COINS, TSI, Business Objects, CAS, Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Manages daily operations of the unit in collaboration with the disease center leaders and ambulatory services administration resulting in a practice that reflects multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ensures that unit policies and procedures meet regulatory and Institute standards, and are effectively communicated.
  • Organizes and oversees efficient patient flow. Monitors outcomes through quality improvement process.
  • Assesses needs of the patient population served. Plans, implements and evaluates systems instituted to meet those needs. Makes appropriate changes when needed.
  • Monitors the environment of care with attention to patient safety.
  • Assures unit is in compliance with regulatory agency standards.
  • Manages unit personnel. Hires, orients, evaluate, and counsels staff in accordance with Human Resource policies and collective bargaining agreement.
  • Reviews patient care assignments to promote maximum utilization of staffing resources.
  • Works collaboratively with the Quality Improvement Department, Nursing and Patient Care Services, and disease center leaders in the development, implementation, measurement and reporting of quality improvement projects.
  • Maintains involvement in professional organizations and community activities.
  • Participates in continuing education and role development
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the research process by facilitating the implementation of approved clinical research activities conducted within the Institute.
  • Monitors and maintains the quality of nursing care delivered to adult/elderly patients.


The job is based at the south shore satellite site and one other location 2 miles from the main site in South Weymouth, MA. The role requires occasional travel to DFCI in Boston and quarterly travel for quality meetings at other satellites.

Qualifications:

Graduate of an NLN accredited school of nursing. Master’s degree required with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Hematology – Oncology experience required. OCN, AOCN, or CPON preferred.
  • Management experience required.
  • Radiation Oncology experience preferred
  • Demonstrated management skills to lead staff at various levels within the Institute.
  • Ability to work with all levels of staff and physicians.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation, monitoring, and management.
  • Understanding of current financial and reimbursement issues in ambulatory care.
  • Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and ability to make independent decisions.
  • Ability to manage and lead in a busy ambulatory care setting with multiple and competing demands for time and resources.
  • Provides direct and indirect supervision to RN’s, clinic assistants, practice coordinators, and other support personnel. Numbers supervised may vary.


Schedule

Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm.

Job Requirements
